Women are Born Leaders!

SUSAN BOYLE GETS HER CHANCE

You may have already seen this video up on YouTube. Millions have. But, if you haven’t, watch it here. Its definitely a feel good moment. The comment I want to make concerns her statement that she never got a chance before.

I’m sure most of us have felt that way before. Felt like a victim. Never given a chance. I mention this to emphasize that this attitude exists with most people. They feel they are victims of their environment, circumstances and upbringing and therefore have legitimate excuses for not having what they want. This just isn’t true!

The idea of waiting for “the chance” to come to you is wrong. You must be the active one. You take chances, you don’t wait until they are given to you.

You must be constantly on the lookout for opportunity and then you take action. Susan Boyle is 47 years old from a small, poor village in Scotland called West Lothian. She took care of her sick mother for most of her adult life.  She only wanted a chance to reach her life's goal, to sing in front of a large crowd.

She is unmarried and lives alone with her cat. In fact, she says she’s never been kissed. I don’t know who pushed her to come on Britain's Got Talent, but in so doing she took a chance. Because she did, her life will now change and provide a powerful demonstration as to why we have to work hard to overcome barriers.

Enjoy the video. It is moving. Help us Spread the Word.
Women are born Leaders.

Women Are Born Leaders - We need them to Lead This Nation's Recovery!

We need to invest in women who may be welfare recipients, unskilled in trades, stay at home moms, etc. earn college degrees or attend trade schools while raising their families..

We need to invest in organizations that provide training for single women and their families. Women who dared to learn skills like carpentry, electrical wiring, and welding were able to make a difference in their community while gaining economic independence.

It's clear that we must invest in the ingenuity and strength of women. We already know what some of the solutions are:

Give women equal pay for equal work - an act that would cut poverty in half. Women still make only 78 cents for every dollar earned by men - and for women of color, the numbers are even worse.

Amidst this grim outlook, there is good news. President Obama's signing of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act is a strong first step, and the federal stimulus package will begin to stem the tide of cuts to social service programs in America.

As labor secretary, Hilda Solis understands the issues that low-wage workers face, and the president's budget prioritizes crucial areas like health care, education, the environment and reducing income disparities.

Put money in the hands of low-income people - food stamps return $1.73 into the economy for every dollar invested, more than any other measure.

Educate and train women to move into quality jobs created by the stimulus package, rebuilding our infrastructure and greening the economy.

Invest in education and health care now to ensure that we have the human capital to sustain a healthy economy.

Engage women directly in the policymaking process as advocates and elected officials.

These are a few measures that will help not just women and families - especially low-wage workers and low-income families - but all communities. Now more than ever, we must invest in women and their potential as agents of social and economic change.

We need to invest in women so that they can take the lead in helping the country to recover it's standing in the world.

What can I do, you may ask?

DRUNK DRIVING

STOP THE MADNESS!
The COLD, HARD, SOBERING FACTS about alcohol and drunk driving in the United States:

Fact: A total of 41,059 total traffic fatalities were recorded in the US in 2007.   Of those, an estimated 12,998 (over 31%) were drunk drivers

(Blood Alcohol Concentration above .08).

Fact: On average, someone is killed by a drunk driver in the US every 40 minutes.

The effects of alcohol and intoxicated driving are far-reaching. Its effects go way beyond the number of killed and injured. We are all equally at risk.

Question:
How close does death or injury have to come to you or your family at the hands of a drunk driver, before you will do something active, not passive? Get involved now! THE LIFE YOU SAVE COULD BE YOUR OWN OR THAT OF A LOVED ONE.

Our governments, federal, state and local have declared WAR on drunken driving, yet the problem remains.
We have gotten MADD, SADD, BADD and more, and still the madness continues.

Can anything be done?   Yes!  Spread the word to friends and family!
